WMMG Chapter 107
by BlossomTLExtra 2: Goddess Plays with Cats
While strolling through the central courtyard of Jeweld Castle, Yuichiro heard a familiar animal sound, ‘nya~,’ from above. He stopped, looked up at the tree next to him, and saw a cat lying on a thick branch. It was a beautiful white cat with bright blue eyes, the first cat he had seen since coming to this world.
“It’s a cat.”
“What’s wrong?”
Just as Yuichiro muttered to himself, someone called out from behind. When he turned around, Noah was standing there.
“There’s a cat.”
Noah blinked and tilted his head as he pointed to the top of the tree.
“A cat?’
“Yeah, a cat… Could it be that the word ‘cat’ isn’t tuned here?”
It’s too complicated if the tuning doesn’t match for different animals. Yuichiro furrowed his brows, and Noah looked at where Yuichiro was pointing and let out a slight exclamation.
“Could it be talking about Cheshire?”
“Cheshire?”
“Yeah, Cheshire. So, her name is Samuel.”
Noah pointed to the white cat. Apparently, the female cat’s name is Samuel.
“Does someone own her?”
“No way. She’s lived longer than anyone in this castle. She’s been living here all along.”
Yuichiro was amazed by Noah’s words. The lifespans of cats differed even between his original world and this one.
“How old is that cat… Cheshire, I mean?”
“I don’t know for sure. But she seems to have been around since the time of a few generations of kings. Izrael said he had a falling out with Samuel a few hundred years ago, and they’re still not talking to each other.”
“What? A cat had a falling out with a dragon?”
Staring dumbfounded at the white cat, it suddenly stood up from its lying position. After stretching its back, it jumped down confidently toward Yuichiro.
“Whoa!”
Yuichiro hastily caught the white cat leaping towards him with both arms. Noah exclaimed in surprise as he held the cat in his arms in a daze.
“This is amazing. It’s the first time I’ve seen Samuel let someone pick her up.”
Noah laughed as he looked at Yuichiro, who was behaving awkwardly.
“Why don’t you hold her like you’re holding a baby?”
Yuichiro reluctantly followed the advice with a tone he wouldn’t usually use. He lifted the white cat with both arms to hold her securely. Immediately, the white cat rubbed against Yuichiro’s chest, making a purring sound.
“Wow!”
A small, pulsating creature was in his arms. He felt his chest warming up at the fact.
“So cute.”
Just as he was about to say how cute she was, a sound like a beast’s growl came from a distance. The sound was approaching rapidly.
A green mass leaped out from the windows of the castle’s upper floors and plummeted towards Yuichiro like a bullet. It was Izrael.
Izrael came to a sudden halt in front of Yuichiro and began shouting at the white cat with an intense demeanor.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?! You know that’s my goddess, right?! Your wickedness hasn’t changed even after two hundred years, you mischievous cat!”
In response to Izrael’s barrage of insults aimed at the cat, Yuichiro’s face contorted in disbelief. While Izrael was seething with rage, the white cat nestled in Yuichiro’s arms continued grooming itself as if oblivious to the commotion.
“Yuichiro, hey Yuichiro! You’re trying to say something nice about that cat! Why would you? Aren’t I much cuter?”
“Well… you’re not really that cute…”
As Yuichiro inadvertently revealed his true feelings, Izrael seemed shocked, freezing in place with his mouth agape. Then, he began trembling and quivering uncontrollably.
“Th-that’s just cruel!”
Izrael let out a voice akin to that of a woman scorned and flew away with a swoosh. Noah chased after Izrael, calling out his name.
Yuichiro stared blankly at the departing figures of Izrael and Noah. Afterward, his gaze fell upon the white cat in his arms. The white cat, once again, let out a lazy yawn.
After rubbing its face a few times, the white cat stared at Yuichiro intently. Its irises, shining in blue brilliance, resembled a kaleidoscope. While keeping his gaze locked onto Yuichiro, the white cat softly spoke.
“Hey, let’s play together next time, just the two of us.”
Yuichiro heard the unmistakable voice of a woman and shivered involuntarily.
“Huh?”
As he made a surprised sound, the white cat jumped down from Yuichiro’s arm. It then walked away, swaying its long tail. Watching its leisurely departure, Yuichiro let out a husky voice.
“What… in the world is happening?”
There was still so much about this world that Yuichiro didn’t understand.
