Led by Guldo-san, we arrived at a spacious room located in the basement of the Adventurer’s Guild. A desk and chair were arranged on the entrance side of the room, and a strange scarecrow-like figure was installed towards the back with various weapons were decorated on the walls.

As I looked around, thinking the place was indeed for combat training, Guldo-san began to explain,”This is a place where the receptionist of the guild can use for physical training. We will be using this as Lark’s examination ground this time. For now, please sit on that chair over there and fill out the paper I gave you earlier.”

    “Yes.”

As instructed, I sat on the nearby chair. Then, I put the paper that I received earlier on the desk and borrowed a pen from Guldo-san to fill in the blanks. The items were only three things: name, primary weapon used, and skills. Since I was told that I could write only what I was good at with weapons and skills, I only wrote down fire attribute magic and short sword technique. It didn’t take much time to finish writing, so I submitted the paper to Guldo-san.

While checking the paper, Guldo-san asked me suspiciously, “Hmmm, I see. Can you really use magic?”

“Um, I haven’t really tried it out much, so I’m not sure. However, I can use it.” Although I answered that way, Guldo-san still looked at me with a doubtful gaze. I hurriedly created a small ball of fire in my palm.

Guldo-san stared at the fireball with wide-open eyes, then lowered his head. “Ah, I’m sorry for doubting you. Well then, let me explain the exam. Although the exam is simple, attack the ‘measurement scarecrow’ at the back of the room with weapons or magic.”

“That’s the thing called the measurement scarecrow, right? What happens when you attack it?”

Pointing to the scarecrow at the back, Guldo answered the question. “Can you see the transparent plate on its torso? When you attack the measurement scarecrow, the power will be displayed as a number on that transparent plate. And we will judge whether you pass or fail based on the number that comes out.”

“I see, I understand. Um, can I try as many times as I want until I reach the passing line?”

“It’s okay. The time limit is one hour, so if the standard value comes out during that time, you pass.”

“Got it. Then, I’ll give it a try,” as I responded, I stood up from the chair and walked towards the measurement scarecrow. I stopped about five meters away and thought about how to attack it.

First, let’s try a fire attribute magic to see how much power it generates.

“Here we go!” I created a baseball-sized fireball with full concentration and threw it with a shout.

When the fireball hit the measurement scarecrow, the transparent plate on its torso showed the number “101”.

…Is this a pass or a fail? I’ve completely forgotten to ask Guldo-san how many points are needed to pass.

    “Um, how about this?”

When I asked this, Guldo-san smacked his forehead. “Oh, I forgot to tell you the passing score. The passing line is 300. Simply put, you need three times the power of that magic to pass.”

    “Th-three times… I haven’t reached the passing line at all…”

Feeling a bit down, I threw a fireball at the scarecrow without giving up. However, no matter how many times I try, I failed to reach the passing score. The highest number displayed on the board was only at “159”.

It’s technically higher than my previous score, but I’ve only reached half of the passing line. But why did the number increase from earlier? I checked my status with “Appraising Eye” just to be sure.

I had a feeling that my mana was decreasing, while my Mana’s value and my ‘Fire Magic’ skill level increased. The title “Nameless” had also disappeared as well. Additionally, I was surprised to have obtained a new skill called “Mana Control.”

According to ‘Appraising Eye’, this skill automatically controls mana and increases the accuracy and power of magic.

“I see, so the power went up because my magic power and skill level increased… and I even learned a new skill,” I muttered to myself, turning towards the measurement scarecrow. With this new skill, I could probably make even bigger fireballs.

Alright, I can see a bit of hope now. I activated Fire Magic and then Mana Control to manipulate the flame output. Both skills activated smoothly, and a basketball-sized fireball appeared…
