The main story is complete! As for the extras, I’ll be uploading 1-2 chapters per week :)

“Ah, that was a great meal.”

I patted my full stomach with a satisfied smile. Room service was expensive, but it was worth the price. The portions were small—I had anticipated that and ordered a lot—but the food was delicious and well-executed.

The mealtime, which I thought would be awkward, melted away helplessly in the face of the delicious food. We also ordered a bottle of wine, and I’m not sure if it was because of the atmosphere or the taste, but the alcohol went down endlessly, and I don’t know how many more bottles we drank. As the intoxication set in, the atmosphere became much more amiable. However, Matthias seemed tired from the trip and just sipped on wine without saying much. I had to put in a lot of effort to pretend not to be conscious of Matthias.

The drinking session ended only after midnight. Strangely, we all drank together, but only Matthias’ and my faces were flushed red.

    “Shower, I need to shower.”

Taking a cold shower might sober me up a bit. I headed to the bathroom attached to my room. The bathroom had a separate sink and shower area, and the area in front of the sink was cluttered with miscellaneous items like coins and receipts that I had taken out. They were from my pockets.

“I should tidy up a bit.”

We’re leaving tomorrow. I reached out to organize the vanity but hesitated. It was because there were two Polaroid photos among the coins and receipts.

    “Ack, what is this!”

The Polaroid photos showed Cesare and me. I was lying on the sofa, and Cesare was waking me up, but the pose was so uncanny that it looked exactly like we were kissing. In the other photo, I was holding Cesare’s shirt, and it also looked like I had initiated a kiss. They were really photos that could easily be misunderstood.

Before I could deal with the problematic photos, the bathroom door swung open. Startled, I instinctively hid the photos behind my back. Matthias, who had just finished showering, was coming out of the bathroom wearing only a towel. Ah, we were in the same room.

    “What’s wrong?”

When I became flustered, Matthias looked at me with a worried expression. Seeing him like that made me feel strangely guilty even though I hadn’t done anything wrong.

    “No, nothing. It’s nothing.”

“Is it because of your ankle? Does it still hurt a lot?”

Without giving me a chance to refuse, Matthias knelt on one knee and touched my ankle. As a result, Matthias’ gaze aligned with the photos I was holding. My palms became sweaty with a feeling of having done something wrong.

    “Let me see.”

    “It’s okay.”

    “Still…”

    “I said it’s fine… Ow!”

I swatted away Matthias’ hand that was holding my ankle. However, Matthias was more steadfast than I thought, and I ended up being pushed back. I fell flat on the carpet, landing on my buttocks.

    “Ugh…”

I felt a stinging pain in my spine and buttocks. Falling twice in one day, talk about bad luck.

But that wasn’t the important part. I had let go of the photos when I fell.

I quickly got up and confirmed the location of the photos. And I sighed. Both photos had fallen between Matthias and me, clearly showing the front side. I swiftly covered the photos with my palm, but it seemed too late. Cold sweat ran down my back.

    “…”

    “…”

I thought about the probability that Matthias hadn’t seen the photos. Matthias’ face was calmer than I expected. Did he not see them? As I quietly stared at Matthias’ face, he let out a low sigh and spoke.

“Why are you making such a big deal out of that? I already saw everything earlier.”

    “Ah, you saw it earlier?”

“Yeah. How could I not see them when they were so blatantly placed on the vanity?”

Was he… misunderstanding? Was he holding back his anger? I couldn’t read Matthias’ expression. My mouth was parched. I gulped and opened my mouth.

“I don’t know what you’re thinking, but it’s a misunderstanding. This is just a photo of Cesare waking me up, taken by someone. There’s a famous painter named Giovanni, and I got to meet him somehow…”

As I rambled on, Matthias smiled with a sigh-like expression.

“It’s okay. You don’t need to explain.”

    “…Huh?”

“I said you don’t need to explain every single thing.”

Hearing his unexpected answer, I was at a loss for words.

If I don’t explain, the conversation will end here, but aren’t you curious about the situation? Is that what you want? Really?

    “Sigh…”

I rubbed the corners of my eyes. Was it because I had been drinking? I was tired. Was it right to hold on to someone who didn’t seem to want to talk anymore and continue the conversation? Should I just end the conversation here? As I was contemplating, I suddenly remembered what Cesare had said before entering the hotel.

    ‘Try talking to Matthias.’

‘It will be fine, really. It might unexpectedly be no big deal and get resolved without any issues.’

Yeah, let’s talk a bit more. I decided to muster up some courage.

“…What do you mean by that? Are you saying you’re not misunderstanding? Or that you don’t care either way?”

At my question, Matthias’ face cracked for the first time. He hesitated for a moment before opening his mouth with difficulty.

    “…I’m not misunderstanding. But…”

Matthias’ following words were enough to plunge my mood into the mud.

    “I don’t care either way.”

Matthias said that with a not-at-all-okay expression. Thanks to that, I became not okay at all too. A fire ignited in my chest.

    “Let’s get up.”

Matthias held out his hand to me. I grabbed Matthias’ hand as he tried to get up and pulled him. Losing his balance, Matthias almost fell on top of me but managed to regain his balance by barely propping himself up with his hand.

“What are you doing? You almost got hurt!”

“Why don’t you care? Aren’t we lovers?”

Hearing my words, Matthias’ face contorted even more.

    “…You’re right, lovers.”

Matthias spoke in a dejected voice.

“Then why didn’t you answer my calls?”

A topic that deviated from the subject popped out. It was also my hidden true feelings.

Why didn’t you answer? Didn’t you miss me? I wanted to hear your voice. I wanted to see your face too. Actually, I want to hug you right now. Don’t you feel the same? Did you really find someone else? Am I too ordinary for you now that you’re out in the world?

Instead of the dozens of words lingering on my lips, tears burst out first. Matthias hurriedly hugged me in a panic.

    “Why, why are you crying?”

“Am I… not special to you anymore?”

“What kind of nonsense is that? How can you not be special? That’s not it.”

    “Then why…”

“Lee Hyun, let’s play cards together… Lee Hyun, are you crying?”

That’s when it happened. The door swung open, and Absilon came in with cards. Because Absilon thoughtlessly opened the door wide, even Ludwig and Cesare in the living room saw this scene. Absilon approached me in a panic, sliding on his knees.

“What’s wrong, Lee Hyun? Are you hurt somewhere?”

    “…Hic.”

What should I do with this clueless guy? I wanted to quickly chase him out, but the hiccups that had suddenly started wouldn’t stop. Meanwhile, Absilon’s eyes looking at Matthias became sharp.

“Matthias, did you hit Lee Hyun?”

“Why would I hit him? We have something to talk about, so go out for a bit.”

Matthias said, holding his forehead as if he had a headache. Absilon bit his lips indignantly.

“I want to talk to Lee Hyun too.”

“Absilon, hic, it’s okay, so please give us a moment.”

Absilon looked at me pitifully, but no meant no. Matthias dragged Absilon out as if lifting him, then slammed the door shut. Looking at me still sitting on the floor, sobbing, Matthias made a complicated expression.

“I think we need to talk.”

    ***

Amalfi, ranked first on the list of places to visit before dying in the past. The feeling of driving towards that place was really… killing me.

    “Please just kill me…”

“Just bear with it a little longer, Lee Hyun. We’re almost there.”

Absilon spoke, looking at me with a sympathetic gaze. Sitting in the passenger seat, I looked out the car window at the cliff that seemed to be carved out and the deep blue sea with a desperate expression. How many more winding roads do we have to pass before we reach the accommodation? Even though I had already emptied my stomach twice, the motion sickness didn’t end.

“Why don’t you sleep for a bit?”

“I slept too much earlier, so I’m not sleepy… Urgh.”

I barely managed to hold back the rising nausea. Everyone in the car looked at me with sympathetic eyes. It was so unfair that I was the only one experiencing motion sickness among them. It’s not like I drank the most last night.

    “Are you okay?”

    “No, almost dead.”

The driver asked for the fifth time if I was okay. I shook my head, expressing that I was not okay. As if that was funny, the driver chuckled as he turned the steering wheel. Thanks to that, my motion sickness worsened.

Since there were quite a few of us, we took an 8-seater car. While self-driving cars were becoming more common, the roads we were taking were narrow, so we opted to have a driver who was familiar with the route. It was a good choice. The roads were carved out of cliffs, making the lanes narrow, so when we encountered buses, we often had to reverse and yield the way. However, there was nothing I could do about the suffering it caused me. It was the price of overdrinking the night before.

Ludwig silently handed me a third plastic bag. I didn’t even have the strength to say thank you, so I meekly accepted it and held it close to my chest. As I looked out the open window, I made eye contact with Matthias in the side mirror. Matthias must have noticed our eyes meeting in the mirror as well, as he quickly averted his gaze.

    “…”

As soon as I saw Matthias’ face, the events of last night began to replay forcefully. My head started to ache as if the CPU was overheating.
